Evidence and Source Attribution

Every factual claim in reporting and analysis must be supported by an identified source. Sources are named in the article or listed in the Sources & Methodology section. Anonymous sources are used only when a named source would face credible risk of harm, and only when the information cannot be obtained through named sources. The reason for anonymity is disclosed to readers.

Primary sources are preferred: government records, court filings, agency datasets, published research, and direct statements from people with firsthand knowledge. Secondary sources are used when primary sources are unavailable, and the secondary source is identified.

Statistics are presented with their source organization, the geographic area they cover, the time period they measure, and the date the data was retrieved. Eviction filings are distinguished from completed evictions. Unemployment figures are distinguished from broader workforce hardship measures. Announced funding is distinguished from money actually disbursed.

Reporting Versus Opinion

Every article carries a clearly visible label identifying its type: Reporting, Analysis, Opinion, Biblical Reflection, Interview, or Historical Feature. These labels appear at the top of every article and in all listings.

Reporting — Reporting presents documented facts from identified sources. The reporter's personal views do not appear in reporting articles.

Analysis — Analysis interprets documented conditions and may draw conclusions, but those conclusions are grounded in identified evidence and distinguished from the underlying facts.

Opinion — Opinion presents the editor's perspective. Opinion articles are clearly labeled and do not present the editor's views as established facts.

Biblical Reflection — Biblical Reflection presents scripture-based commentary on economic and social conditions. Interpretations are presented as the editor's perspective. Scripture quotations identify the Bible translation used. Connections between biblical passages and contemporary conditions are explained; biblical symbolism is not presented as proof of factual allegations.

Historical Feature — Historical Feature presents documented historical record with identified sources. Historical analogy is distinguished from direct equivalence to present conditions.

Verification of Quotations and Facts

Quotations attributed to named individuals are verified before publication. Direct quotations reproduce the speaker's words accurately. Paraphrases are identified as paraphrases. Quotations are not altered to change their meaning.

Factual claims are verified against primary sources before publication. When a claim cannot be verified, it is not published as fact. When a claim is disputed, the dispute is disclosed.

This publication does not invent statistics, interviews, quotations, credentials, or reporting partnerships. Proposed editorial assignments are not presented as completed reporting.

Fair Treatment of People and Organizations

People and organizations discussed in reporting are given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication when the reporting may reflect negatively on them. Their responses, or their decision not to respond, are disclosed in the article.

Reporting focuses on documented actions and conditions, not on personal characteristics unrelated to the matter being reported. Individuals in vulnerable circumstances are treated with dignity.

Handling of Allegations

Allegations are identified as allegations, not established facts, until they are proven or admitted. The source of an allegation is identified. The subject of an allegation is given an opportunity to respond.

Legal proceedings are reported accurately. Charges are distinguished from convictions. Civil complaints are distinguished from judgments. The outcome of proceedings is reported when it becomes available.

Corrections and Updates

Errors are corrected promptly. Corrections appear in the original article with a clearly labeled correction note identifying what was wrong and what the correct information is. Corrections are not silently deleted.

Significant updates to a published article are labeled with an updated date and a brief note describing what changed. Minor editorial corrections (spelling, grammar) that do not affect meaning may be made without a correction note.

Disclosure of Commercial Relationships

The 144K Watchman Journal is published by Arias Vanier Gray LLC, a professional services firm offering business consulting, consumer credit education, and related services. This relationship is disclosed on the journal homepage and in this document.

Reporting and analysis are conducted independently of the firm's commercial interests. The firm's services are not promoted within editorial content. When a topic is directly related to services offered by the publisher, that relationship is disclosed in the article.

Any advertising, sponsored content, or paid placement is visibly labeled and kept separate from editorial content. Advertisers do not influence editorial decisions.

Protection of Personal Information

Personal information about private individuals is published only when it is directly relevant to the matter being reported and when its publication serves a legitimate public interest. The privacy of people in vulnerable circumstances receives additional consideration.

Subscriber information collected through the journal's mailing list is used only to deliver journal updates. It is not shared with third parties or used for commercial purposes. Privacy Policy for full details.

AI-Assisted Illustrations and Visual Concepts

This publication may use AI-assisted tools to generate illustrative images and visual concepts. Such images are labeled to distinguish them from documentary photography of actual people, places, or events.

AI-generated images are not used to depict real individuals without their consent, to illustrate events that did not occur, or to create a false impression of documentary evidence. When an image is AI-generated, that fact is disclosed in the image caption or credit.

Advertising and Sponsored Content

Advertisements, sponsored content, and business-service promotions are visibly labeled and kept separate from editorial reporting, analysis, and opinion. The label "Advertisement," "Sponsored," or "Paid Placement" appears on all such content.

Sponsored content does not appear in the same format as editorial articles. Advertisers and sponsors do not review, approve, or influence editorial content before publication.
